Learning Curve.....scan n cut machine

There's a new cutter in my hands - the Brother Scan N Cut. Now as I am on holiday, I really haven't had a lot of time, or the supplies to really give this a workout, but over the next couple of days I will share some of the results I have had.

Firstly, this is a nicely designed machine and is very lightweight - just as well as I have to carry it back in my hand luggage on the plane. You see the little screen on the top? That flips up. I found the screen size perfectly workable, I think having an iphone helps adjust to that..

I took a couple of photos of the shapes that are available, this is just a snapshot, giving you an idea of the available shapes. These basic shapes are great - I will probably use these more than any other patterns....

Some of the shapes...

more shapes and some tags and frames......

There are ready designed words and phrases, and some borders....

You get four built in alphabets, and of course you can import fonts....

I am intrigued by the quilting patterns, I won't be quilting, but I reckon some of these would make great cards....

I'll be back tomorrow when I will show you some of the cuts I have made. If you want to know more about the machine, there are loads of YouTube videos to show it in action. See you tomorrow x

  1. Oh Enfys, I was hoping not to want anymore machines. I do love to quilt and cutting the quilt pieces is the worse part for me.
I will not wish for this machine until I see your next few post. Maybe it is hard to use :)
It does look good from the pictures though.

  2. Looks like an interesting machine. I like the way the shapes are organized in their "catalog." Seems like it makes them easy to look through and find the right one.

  5. Hi Enfys. As a Cricut user what is your opinion of Cricut Expression Versus Brother Scan and Cut? Do both have a place in your craft room or is the Brother replacing the Cricut? Hope you keeping well and enjoying your holidays.

  6. Hi Enfys, hope you are enjoying Florida, I was there last month when it was unseasonably warm...sorry. I also bought the snc and agree it is a steep learning curve. I packed mine in my normal luggage though with lots of crafty goodies for packing around it. Hugs, Amanda x

  7. I am so excited to see more about this machine Enfys. I've already told my DH about it and suggested that it be his next big purchase for me. Once he saw the price, made a comment that it was rather expensive ... but then I explained how it scans and cuts (he's an avid sports fan, and loves his team t-shirts, etc.), so the possibility that I could design some things for him actually using the team logos, made him smile. Yep, I do know how to plant those seeds! *wink*

Anyway ... keep posting about this machine ... I want to hear it all! =)

  8. I love the look of this machine Enfys but just can't justify spending all that money on one. I suppose anyone starting out would save a fortune on dies as they will be defunct with a machine like this. Hope you're having a great holiday. Pat x

  9. Just wondering how many machines do you have and which are your favorites? It seems like there is no end to these types of design machines. I want one of each, but that is not possible. I love my Silhouette, Expression and Imagine, but my room is too small for all of these new types and I cannot afford them all. Lucky to have what I have.
Enjoy this new Brother computerized one and let us see what it can do.

  13. That machine has a lot of built in cuts! Amazing. No buying cartridges. Although I haven't gotten a cartridge in well over a year. I've been making due. And it has worked well for me. All I've bought has been mostly adhesives and glues. Looking forward to you new cuts. Hugs, Jess
