Happy Wedding

I used Elegant Edges, the new Cricut cartridge, and a Lili of the Valley stamp for this card.

I cut a heart border out of a shell pink Bazzill cardstock for the left edge, the shape on the right edge is one of the book feature cuts, and the image was stamped onto one of the oblong label cuts - see, I told you this was the most versatile cartridge ever. The image didn't need a lot of colouring, but of course I used Promarkers. The base card is a 6 x 6 white card by

Craftwork Cards

Making the card was easier then trying to post it on here - Mr Blogger has been very capricious lately. Note that I make blogger a male - he is just so darned awkward! I decided to put a load of cards I had made into drafts, already for me to add some waffle and publish later. So easy when I am short of time. A good idea don't you think? Well, no, not really. It is easier to start from scratch, Mr Blogger decides to be uncooperative and just won't let me edit posts at all. That makes him very male to me, just unable to cope with multi tasking. So I will go off in a huff to cook the dinner, doing a bit of ironing while I wait for the pasta to cook, wiping the countertops down as I go and talking to a friend on the phone the whole time...........

Max and Milo Birthday Cards

The challenge on Polkadoodles this week was an easel card, so I decided to make this one for Milo, who will be two on he 18th of this month. I used the bear and cake from the Sundae of Seasons CD, the kraft paper is from the Sprinkles of Kraft CD. I 'iced' the cake with Pebeo pearl fabric paint. The cake with candles is popped up with foam pads to keep the easel standing. The green letters spelling his name are rub ons by Making Memories, and the tiny tag is by Craftwork Cards

Once this was done, I had to make a card for Max, his big brother, who will be four on the 20th May. Max is still fascinated with fire engines,firemen and emergencies, so this card will be perfect for him. The engine and lettering were cut from the B is for Boy cricut cartridge, the blue gingham paper is Recollections from Michaels. I embossed the red panel for texture and added some silver card candi to the fire engine

I was with my craft group all day yesterday. We meet in a community centre, which has woods at the back of it, and all day we were watching cardinals and bluejays flying around. Then a feral cat came cautiously out of the woods, looked around, then went and fetched her tiny kitten. When darkness fell, we suddenly heard a tremendous snapping and snarling outside, then the unmistakably anguished cry of a cat. We were quite upset to think that the little kitten may have been taken by a predator. Nature can be cruel.

Golden Wedding Mini Book

I have a new love in my life - the new Cricut cartridge called Elegant Edges. Those of you who are cardmakers and Cricut owners, this cartridge is a must. It is crammed with nestability type shapes - ranging from simple scallop ovals, circles and squares, to label type cuts. Then there are the borders, it's like having masses and masses of border punches at your fingertips. One of the features I couldn't wait to play with is called the Book feature, it cuts the scallop edge but with a straight edge down one side. So this is how I made this little book, I manipulated the cuts a little bit on the gypsy, just made the pages very slightly more elongated than the previous one. I cut it out of the cardboard that is on the back of paper stacks, then cut a front and back for each page from the Martha Stewart pattern paper.

The '50' medallion figures were cut from Jasmine at 1 3/4", with a gold mirri card shadow

The book pages were cut at 5" (note: the dial size determines the HEIGHT of the cut, not the length)

I cut some pretty borders and shapes to decorate the inside, but left room for the photos

I think that gorgeous cut out daisy shape is my favourite.....

I decorated one photo mat with a couple of 'gold' rings threaded onto gold ribbon

Someone in a store today, on hearing my accent, started enthusing about the royal wedding.

'Why did they start it so early though?' she asked. Well it could be something to do with the fact that it was a UK wedding, held in the UK, on UK time. Still, she liked the dress, and thought Harry was 'hot' so that was okay then....

On to todays card - a sweet little image from Lili of the Valley, coloured very lightly with Promarkers. I used an embossing folder found in the UK called Drip Drop (I knew when I saw it that it would be useful for cards like this). I added some Doodle Dewdrops from Polkadoodles, and although it doesn't show, the puddles of water and bubbles have a coat of Glossy Accents

Well, what about the wedding then? Wasn't it totally fabulous? I did stay up for most of the night because I sat mesmerised in front of some obscure TV channel which had some so-called-etiquette-expert from the UK teaching some American presenters how the Royals ate their soup.Honestly, it was riveting :)
Of course, we all agree, the bride looked stunning, the bridesmaids adorable, the two Princes bought a lump to my throat.............. I felt very proud to be British

BUT

I have questions

1. Doesn't the Archbishop of Canterbury have a wife? A daughter? Anyone who loves him enough to say kindly 'You know Rowan, if you are going to be on TV in two billion homes, perhaps you should get those eyebrows trimmed' They were more flyaway than a jumbo jet!

2. Does anyone know who the nuns were? Did you notice them, sitting quietly, hands folded in laps at the side of the newly weds when they were listening to the reading and address? Then at the end, when the clergy left the Abbey, they joined the procession. One was about 4'6" tall, the other one must have been nearly 6'. Wouldn't you think they could have found a perfectly matched pair for the occasion? Perhaps they were MI5 agents in disguise......no, that's even sillier

3. When did hats stop being hats, worn on peoples heads, and become ridiculous models of various world landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, Leaning Tower of Pisa, or Big Ben, balanced on the bridge of the wearers nose

4. Princess Eugenie. Princess Beatrice. Why?

I have observed all these details, as I watched the replays over and over and over......sigh, time to get back to the craftroom

Royal Wedding Street Party Blog Hop

Street Party? For those of you not from the UK, it is a tradition of ours at times of national celebration, like today, to hold street parties. Residents apply to the local council for permission to close the road to traffic for the day, long tables are set up down the middle of the road, with party food, lots of cake and jelly for the children, and plenty of games to play

So today sees a virtual street party for you to join in, hosted by The Making Spot, a brand new website from Future Publishing. A fabulous prize is offered for one of you, with the chance to pick up lots of goodies as you hop along as well - scroll down to see my party parcel for you

I decided to make a banner. I printed some union jack flags off the internet, and used all red, white and blue (how fortunate that the USA and UK share the same flag colours, I was able to pick up the red white and blue ribbon to thread the banner)

All the banner shapes and embellishments were cut from the Birthday Bash cartridge, using my Cricut expression. The banners were cut at 8", the scallop layer in blue, and the straight edge in white. I decorated these with silver card candi from Craftwork Cards

I cut the letters at 3 1/2" in blue (shadow), then red, and stitched with white thread.....

This crown seemed very appropriate for today.....





I cut this sundae dish from one of the printed out Union Jacks........

and added some glossy accents to the cherry, and glitter to the 'cream'

I embossed the cupcake holder with the cuttlebug, then used a white pen to add detail, as for the cupcake, well, if Dunkin Donuts can make a Royal Wedding donut, I am sure that someone, somewhere in the UK has made a Union Jack cupcake!

The balloons were given a thick coat of glossy accents, they look as if they might just float away

Last of all in this marathon post, it was my turn to set the challenge on the Polkadoodles blog this week. I decided on a colour challenge:

It is also our 'stashbox stamp' week, when the design team use stamps by other manufacturers, I used this rainy day girl by Sugar Nellie, and paper pieced her clothes, I rather like her polka dot wellies and coat. Definitely not a crafting day today, along with millions (billions?) of others around the world, I will be glued to the TV watching every minute of the celebrations. Finally, I wish William and Kate all the luck in the world, and hope they have a long, happy and joyous marriage. What a gorgeous young couple they seem. Enjoy the day everyone

So I tried something new.........

I was browsing through a book with some iris folding, and suddenly thought 'I could do that with my Cricut'

So I cut a 11" x 5 1/2" rectangle from George, and using my gypsy, positioned a strawberry shape from Indie Art bang in the middle of what eventually became the front of the card. I used hide contour to hide the stalky bit and the seeds, and cut them out separately

I then cut 1 1/2" wide strips from 12" paper (three different patterns), and folded them in half lengthwise. I turned the card so that the back of the strawberry was facing me, and started to glue on the strips of paper at an angle. You always end up with a little hole in the centre, I just filled this in with a paper scrap

I added some black metal dots to the diecut seeds
I got carried away and decided to use the same technique on a teapot - from Pagoda. I worked it out a little bit wrong, and the teapot wasn't quite centred, but never one to miss a challenge, I designed the rest of the card around that. The border, and the scallop circle in the first card are from the Elegant Edges cartridge. The mulberry roses are Recollections from Michaels

Wendy asked if I would be getting up at 4 AM on Friday to watch the wedding - well of course I will, mind you, it will be a pyjama party. I have decided to forgive them for not inviting me, and will grace them with my presence via the box. Too bad really, I have a lovely hat I could have worn.

Sweet Little Birthday Girl

I made this one with a sweet little Lili of the Valley image - she looks so intent on balancing that huge cake!

I airbrushed around the image, and also airbrushed on top of the paper. The crochet flower is by Stampin Up, base card and sentiment tag by Craftwork Cards

I coloured the image some time ago, so have lost the list of promarkers used - sorry

There is as much excitement about the royal wedding here in the USA as there is in the UK. Loads of TV shows, rehashing anything that's ever being made about the royal family. To my great delight (and amusement) they have a special at Dunkin Donuts this week - the Royal Wedding donut - it has pink icing and white swirls.
If you want a real laugh click HERE to see the spoof video made by T Mobile, it's hilarious - I love the bottom bumps of Prince Charles and Camilla, Princess Anne is a hoot, and I swear that is the real Archbishop of Canterbury! Best of all is Prince Harry.

Here's a couple of cards I did for Nikky - using A Double Sprinkle of Kraft, these were samples for her Create and Craft TV show

I used HUGE scallop card bases (8" x 8"). When you are making stuff for TV, the bigger the better, the cameramen don't often get it right about zooming in for the detail of a card being held by the presenter, so big is good

This first one just used papers and flowers printed from the CD, I handcut the leaves

I love this second card. Again, all the elements were printed from the CD, I used Papermania letter stickers for the sentiment, and added some doodle dewdrops to the cherry trees

Polkadoodle Friday

Over at Polkadoodles this week, the challenge is to use three different pattern papers. Yes, there are three different patterns in the card below, all aqua, all printed out from the Wonderland CD. The roses are scallop circles cut into a spiral (MFT rolled rose), I added a pink circle to the centre, and sprinkled that with some white seed beads. Lettering is Thickers by American Crafts, punches are EK success. The leaves are a Sissix die

I seem to have 'popped into' Michaels and Joanns a few times this week, not for any major purchase, just that I find them irresistible. I spend more time looking at stuff that has nothing at all to do with making cards, and can get quite carried away. I have almost become a knitter, was very close to making myself a cute necklace, had visions of fabulous flower arrangements, and I won't even talk about the wonderful wedding cakes I have (mentally) decorated. Oh yes, I once spent about an hour choosing exactly what size canvas I would need to paint my masterpiece, and carefully selected some sable brushes, before I remembered that I can't draw or paint. Ah well, some people linger for hours looking longingly at diamonds in Tiffanys, I suppose that lusting after a icing turntable is quite healthy (until I remember that I haven't baked a cake for about fifteen years!)

Manga girl - Birthday

I had fun colouring this little manga girl, I used strong colours so she really pops

Skin - coral, sunkissed pink

Hair tan caramel cocoa

clothes pear green, moss green, mango, orange, sandstone

I am really into clean looking cards at the moment, so left the base card quite simple. The papers are by SEI

I had to go down to the post office, you don't know how lucky you are here in the USA with your mail service, or perhaps you do of course. The way you get all those free packing boxes.....in the UK you would have to pay about $5 for a small one of those. I always try to get served by a particular guy, he is really jolly, and always makes me laugh. 'Can I interest you in anything else?' he bellows 'packing tape? a nice safe deposit box? I also have a nice line of stamps showing the President with a 'don't mess with me' look on his face...........'
I found out today, after seven years of owning this house, that I don't need to go to the post office at all. Apparently all I have to do is put my parcel by our mailbox, they take it away, and the next day there will be a little envelope with the amount owing, I pop the payment into the envelope, leave it in the mailbox, and bingo, mailing done. Isn't that just the most marvellous service? Mind you, I think I will have to find an excuse to wander into the post office occasionally, just to get a laugh from my jolly postman

Tres Chic

I have been working with the truly gorgeous Tres Chic papers by Craftwork Cards - this is their kit of the month. Click HERE to see all the goodies you would get. The thing I really love about this company is that all the elements of design are covered, so that all your embellishments match perfectly both in colour and style. It really comes over that these are products designed by crafters, for crafters

For this card, I took a scallop edge card and added a bit of wobbly random stitching, and some card candi to add emphasis to the lovely Paris theme paper.......

and since the machine was out, more stitching on this one - I chopped a strip off one of the edge cards and added it with foam pads to the top of the card, all the other elements, apart from the button, are in the kit
and I was totally smitten with this gorgeous grey on white damask pattern paper and decided to make a wedding invitation acceptance card. The pearl stamens in the flower centres were found in a florist supply shop, the little shaped label is another CWC stroke of genius

I concentrated on the subtle colours for these cards, but there is stunning hot pink in there as well, so look out for more Tres Chic from me soon

I am housebound today waiting for a FedEx delivery, just as well maybe, the sun is scorching and you could fry an egg on the road - I wonder if anyone has actually tried to do that? It could be an interesting experiment, and you would save a lot on your electricity bills. 'What's for dinner dear?' 'Eggs a la tarmac'

Thinking of You

I do love this little girl, she is a digi download from Sugar Nellie, my favourite stamps of the moment

clothes tan, caramel, pastel blue, powderblue and blue pearl The flowers were found in the wedding aisle at Michaels, I inked them to match the caramel tones of the card. I didn't trust my sewing skills to sew all the way around the nestability label shape, so just did a few random bits of sewing.

It is fascinating to see how much excitement there is on most of the big TV channels here in the USA about the royal wedding. A few of them are running wall-to-wall royal family programmes already. A tabloid gossip paper at the checkout in the supermarket informed me that Kate is really an American. Yes, and I am the Queen Mother.......... It will be a fun day though, I am rather sorry we are not in the UK for it, there is always a great party atmosphere for this type of occasion, and wherever you are from, you must admit that we Brits do the ceremonial pomp and circumstance stuff very, very well. Perhaps I could organise an English tea party outside DD.....no, that would be plain silly

On to today's card. The image is one I stamped at my craft group - I am pretty sure it's a

Sugar Nellie, coloured with promarkers. I added the little dog stamp. The nestie type shape is one I got at Olympia, by Nellie Snellen , pretty designs and they cost a fraction of the nestability dies.

I punched a half circle on the orange grid paper, and put a small button there as if to anchor it.

Has anyone got any tips on the holy grail for papercrafters, the perfect paper trimmer? I have numerous smaller ones like the Fiskars blue one, and a making memories big one that hinges down the middle and opens out, but the grid is wearing off that, and the ruler guide has snapped a couple of times which is irritating in the middle of a project. I don't want a guillotine one, I would probably chop off my fingers. So if one of you has found the perfect, accurate EASY to use trimmer, I could do with a few tips. It must measure up to 12"

Easter Card for Penny Black and DCM

Happy Sunday morning everyone. I had a bit of a puzzle going on here over the weekend - I felt like taking part in a challenge, which I haven't done for yonks, and hopped over to two of my favourite challenge sites, Penny Black and Daring Cardmakers. They were both looking for Easter cards (with the Penny Black challenge you have to use a PB stamp of course). Not a problem I thought, as I started wading through drawers and drawers full of stamps. Was there an Easter bunny to be found? No, not one, nada, zilch...

Of course, once I get an idea into my head, I get determined to carry it through, so I fished out my favourite PB flower stamp, slapped some paper onto a cricut mat, and here is what I came up with.

Yes, I know that the colours aren't typical, the flowers aren't daffodils or lilies, but I am defiant, I really like the look of this one.......

The base card is by Craftwork Cards, border punch by Martha Stewart, and lettering by Making Memories. The egg shape was cut from Create a Critter on blackout, at 4", then cuttlebugged with the d'vine swirls folder. I stamped the flowers onto the egg, then again onto white cardstock and cut out the flower heads after colouring, which I stuck on with silicone glue to lift them I will be drawing a name by random.org later today for the Graduation cartridge, and will announce the winner in Monday's post

Lessons I learnt yesterday

1. Never use black ink when you are wearing a white top

2. If you lose a card element, be sure to check your backside, you are probably sitting on it

3. Microwave dinners do not look anything like the packaging

4. Microwave dinners do not taste like any recognisable food

5. If you think you are going blind suddenly, try cleaning your glasses
