The dare this week over at Daring Cardmakers was 'tear it up' and here is what I came up with..... I tore out a page of an old A - Z (it happens to be my hometown)
and here is the final card, I rather like it! The little metal car is a brad I picked up in Frankfurt at the trade show four years ago, I knew it would come in handy one day.....
So in the middle of the bleak midwinter, our boiler packed up. The guy came, shook his head sorrowfully, did that pursed lips thing that tradesmen do when they are going to give you bad news, and announced the demise of the boiler. So on a day when gale force winds have swept the UK, we have had all exterior doors open, no heat and no hot water. It will be Saturday before the new boiler is up and running. Feeling just a bit miserable......well, a lot miserable actually.
Nice. I find tearing a challenge, pristine cut edges is much more my comfort zone! My boiler gave up the ghost just recently too. There's nothing like a few days living in a nest of all your jumpers and blankets, and strategically planning where to place the fan heater minute by minute, to make you *really* appreciate the effortless luxury of the new boiler when it comes!
ReplyDeleteAwesomely cool card! Very clever! Sorry your boiler has given up - not nice at this time of year! Roll on Saturday and warmth! Take care! xxx
ReplyDeleteGreat design! Who wouldn't love to get that card! What is an A-Z?
ReplyDeleteIt's a street map of a town or city
DeleteWhat a wonderful card Enfys. The sentiment is perfect. And wasn't it fun to use up a bit of your stash of treasures (the little car brad). I love it when I already have on hand exactly the best embellishment to complete a project. I love the torn torn effect too and use it often, it give cards such an interesting edge.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your boiler quitting when you really need it and can sympathize. A couple of years ago, our A/C decided it's time was up ... and in the middle of summer no less. As you know, A/C is a summer necessity here in Florida. I do hope your new boiler comes soon. Till then, keep warm my friend. (((HUGZ))) xx Carol
Love your card Enfys. So sorry to hear about your boiler/heating. Hope you get it sorted and enjoy a warm and cosy weekend. Hugs Rita xxxx
ReplyDeleteLovin the card Enfys...not lovin you being COLD !!
ReplyDeletehugs Diane xx
ah the joy of a broken boiler! Been there, done that, feel your pain! As it's Saturday afternoon as I'm writing this, I hope the new boiler is installed and that you're starting to warm up {{hugs}}
ReplyDeleteI loved this card on sight - quirky, fun and with a lovely message too - what a great anniversary card it would make
Brilliant idea to use an old map, especially of your home town. I hope you are all snug and warm now.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain, Enfys. Our furnace went out during a very cold stretch about a month ago. We had no heat for 4 days (although we did have hot water). We were a little concerned about our water pipes freezing, but with some space heaters, we managed to keep things going until the new furnace was installed. Good times...not!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about your troubles. Hope it wasn't too hard a wait. Very cute card! Hugs, jess
ReplyDeleteGah, hope you didn't suffer too much with the boiler outage! Love your torn map idea, it looks fabulous!
