Mike was given a gift, and told to open it because something needed to go in the fridge - it was a bottle of port and a Stilton cheese. I was delighted - I hate port and never eat Stilton, so why the happy smile? Just look at the box it came in, a wooden crate that is just crying out to be altered.......
The tree is decorated.........
and it's always lovely to see old favourites come out of the box of decorations. These little ceramic climbing angels were bought in Budapest, Hungary...............
and these little angels came from a Christmas market in Prague.......
these silver bells were on my parents Christmas tree when I was a child.....
and this little chap came from Stuttgart, Germany - you put a scented cone inside and light it, he looks as if he is smoking a pipe!
A couple of last minute Christmas cards. This one used a clear stamp by Papermania UK
and this one is Luka by LaLaLand stamps
Things I love about Christmas:
Family
Friends
Christmas carols
Turkey sandwiches
Seeing the house all dressed up
A pile of presents under the tree
The happy look on someones face when they open their present from you and you know that you got it exactly right
Mince pies
Knowing that you have enough food in the house to feed an army, and won't have to cook for at least a week
That warm cinnamon/spicy/fir tree smell
Things I hate about Christmas:
Getting last minute Christmas cards from people you had forgotten
Getting last minute Christmas presents from people you had forgotten
Crowded shops
Crowded car parks
The unhappy look on someones face when they open their present from you and you know that you got it really wrong
Realising late on Christmas Eve that you have forgotten some vital ingredient for next day's feast (happens every year)
Those news letters that some people put in with their cards. Don't bad things ever happen to these people? They are always full of promotions, brilliant children and world cruises (sorry, don't mean to offend anyone, but I would love to have one saying something like 'Aunt Bessie passed away in March, but it didn't bother us, we never liked her')
Oh no, I can feel a touch of Scrooge bubbling up, I'll stop there.......Note that my likes outnumber the dislikes :)
I never write newsletters. Much to the distress of my mother-in-law. I think it is her holiday tradition and I somehow never caught the bug.
ReplyDeleteYou are just to funny! I used the great markers I won off your blog in October on my Christmas cards this year. They just needed a little something so I added a line of color across the top. But I forgot that little bit of info in your video about how they bleed through! But I just added a line of color on the inside were it bleed through and no one will ever know! They look great! Thanks for your blog and for all the hints and insights into your life. Have a Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year! Judy in Wisconsin
ReplyDeleteI so enjoy reading your comments Enfys. Your tree looks so lovely, I also have ornaments with "history". Sadly no tree in our house this year, but we are off on Wednesday to spend Christmas in The Netherlands with our family there. Why do we all live so far apaert..... Wishing you and your loved ones a Blessed Christmas, will catch up with your news from closer by. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteLove your little Christmas bear card! I never write newsletters, (I call 'em brag letters). I too love to see the ornaments with tradition and history come out from their wrappings. Thanks for another great post, got a real kick out of it!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and yours,
R/
loved today's post...you always tell it like it is...my kinda girl. Can't wait to see what you do with that little crate and love the ornaments on your tree. Who cares is they match...they all hold such wonderful memories...big hugs kath xxx
ReplyDeleteLove your cards Enfys, all the details are so fabulous, so beautifully coloured.
ReplyDeleteLoving your Christmas tree and you made me laugh with the things you hate about Xmas ohh I never write newsletter but I know what you mean lol.
Have a great Christmas and a truly blessed New Year.
Hugs Linda
Now that crate is much better than the contents - have fun with it.
ReplyDeleteYour tree is lovely - mine is still waiting to go up. I think I'm feeling a little "tree'd out" after decorating 7 at work and making 4 magazine trees...must get mine done tonight.
Toni xx
Can't wait to see what you do with that lovely box. I'm weird...I like the newsletters. Otherwise I might not catch up with some people. Yes they are full of 'happy' but if I want 'sad' all I have to do is turn on the TV. Your little ornaments are sweet, and full of memories. That's my favorite part of Christmas. Remembering all the good stuff. Or the funny stuff. Like the year the tree fell on my neighbor! lol Thanks for sharing. Hugs, Jess
ReplyDeleteLove your tree and it was a delight as always so stop by today. I have been putting lots of hours in at work so it has been awhile. Love your lists.... they were very similar to mine. Have a Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun box. Such possibilities ;- ) I love newsletters, too (like the previous poster.) I love to know what everyone is doing and I love when the print photos on them. We have a few who write very funny, kind of mock newsletters. I love putting on all of the ornaments. Ours have history too! Have a fantastic weekend, Enfys.
ReplyDeleteI bet your tree is stunning. I regret not having any ornament with "history" but I intend to buy a few special ones each year, especially as we now need a bigger tree for our new house. As always your card is gorgeous and I remain in awe of your colouring :)
ReplyDeleteI loved your take on the Christmas Newsletter. I receive one each year from the perfect family with the perfect life I actually find it a bit depressing to read all about their huge house, children's achievements, amazing holidays etc etc I normally write something fab in my cards but it is balanced by something tough that has happened so hopefully people realise I am 'normal'!!
ReplyDeleteHappy christmas Enfys I have enjoyed your blog throughout 2011 and I look forward to more in 2012 xxx
You are just too funny. I hate newsletters also. I never send them. I also hate not being in the U.K. for Christmas visiting my two daughters and my grandchildren. You are very lucky to travel around the globe. Have a wonderful Christmas with your family.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jan
Oh my husband LOVE Stilton cheese. His friend bring it from England every time he comes to visit. I am like you I would be much more excited about the box.
ReplyDeleteWe took my 91 yr old.Mother in Law here Mince pies today and she announced she was not sharing.
Your two list are right on.
Have a little bubble and maybe the Scrooge with go away.
Have a wonderful Holiday!
Hugs,
LInda

ReplyDeleteOh Enfys I love your ornaments! How special they are. Your thoughts on newsletters are right on, I hate them. They either are bragging ones or tell us every depressing thing that happened the last 365 days! Anyways I hope you have a wonderful and Merry Christmas!~Mary M

En, thank you so much for popping by my blog to say hello and leave a sweet comment.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your stories. Right on!
Carole
Just too funny....I hate newsletters too. Only time I ever sent one was the 3 years we lived away from home...
ReplyDeleteHave a Merry Christmas & Happiest of New Years...
(love your tree...we have one with all those type ornaments. We call it our memory tree)...
I love your sense of humor. Bah Humbug seems to have infected the Postal Service here but the employees are doing their best to change that around. They certainly made me happy with a package from Letraset. I am sooooo excited to get started on using them. Thank you again for the wonderful gift.
ReplyDeleteHow cute, thanks for sharing your lists of likes and dislikes! Wishing you and yours a blessed holiday season.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the wooden crate. My partner just got his hamper from work for Xmas and it's a wooden crate too which looks very similar. Going to have such fun with it...
