Here's a few more cards that I snapped - because I loved the stamp, layout, colouring, or a combination of all those things
Here are some of the January releases of embellishments from the Martha Stewart range, the butterflies are vellum, layered and very pretty
I was fascinated by the decoration on the various booths, some of them had really gone to a lot of work to make theirs stand out from the rest..
These dresses were on the DCWV booth, every little bit of them is made from DCWV paper. Amazing. Can you imagine how long it must have taken to do the green and pink one?
Yesterday was quite a day. We decided very sensibly, to hire a car for a day to make getting to Michaels, Jo-Anns etc easier. The plan was to pick it up from the airport, start shopping, and I would take it back when I checked in for my flight.

Yesterday was quite a day. We decided very sensibly, to hire a car for a day to make getting to Michaels, Jo-Anns etc easier. The plan was to pick it up from the airport, start shopping, and I would take it back when I checked in for my flight.
We looked up the addresses of various shops before we left, and set off. Picked up the car, programmed the GPS, easy. So we drove, and drove, and drove, around and around, stopping at a MacDonalds for a break. We thought we had driven down to Mexico by mistake, but no, still in LA. So eventually we got to the street address programmed in the GPS. 'You have reached your destination' announced the GPS woman.... well, no, we hadn't. We were driving past Michaels car and body repair shop. Ooooops
So a bit dispirited and deflated, we drove back to our apartment, to regroup and say goodbye to Diane who was leaving for home. I parked the car outside, and in we trooped. When we had gathered enough energy to try again, we went outside - no car, not a sign of it, vanished into thin air. Then we noticed the 'tow zone' sign. Oooooops. After finding out where it had been towed to (not easy when you can't remember the make/colour/registration number of a car you have never driven before, and the hire documents are in the glove box of the car), we set off again. By this time we really were a sorry little bunch, the shoulders were drooping a bit, there was a dejected flatness in our voices, and the bounce really had been knocked out of us. A cab driver dropped us off at Hollywood Tow (Honest!). Have a nice day, he said. NICE DAY! NICE DAY? He drops up off to pay $225 and tells us to have a nice day.
Reunited with our wheels, we programme the GPS and set off again. I will draw a veil over the hair raising journey up and down freeway ramps, the grid locked traffic, I don't want to depress you. 'You have reached your destination' announced the GPS some considereable time, and a lot of miles later. Hmmm, we are on a rather seedy looking street with a lot of people wandering around with their belongings in supermarket carts. Mandy hopped out to ask a shop owner. 'Iss not meechales,' he said in broken English 'isss meechales maskat craft, over dere, he close in five meeneets'. Oooops
Unbroken by all this, we reprogramme the GPS for Walmart. Bear in mind that by this time we had been cruising around for 8 hours, spent $370 and didn't have a single shopping bag to show for it. Walmart was, of course, the other side of the city, a long way away (I feel tired again just writing all this.....) but we MADE IT. YEAH! Predictably of course, they were almost out of Cricut Lite cartridges. Well, the day couldn't have ended any other way really, could it?
I just hope the captain of my plane has better luck with his GPS system than we did, otherwise, you may not hear from me for a few days
Oooh, even more great stuff. Those cards are really pretty. And those dresses are "wow"! I looooove the green and pink one. I'd love to have a dress like this in my wardrobe - but not from paper.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had quite a day - discovering LA. I hope you'll have better luck on the airport!
OMG what a nightmare....and quite an expensive trip to Michaels..fingers crossed the pilot had more luck getting you home safe and sound...big hugs kath xxx
ReplyDeleteHi Enfys, my first experience of driving in the US was in LA, it nearly put me off for life, in fact after driving once it took me five years to try again lol. Driving in Florida is so much easier and everything is easier to find as well. Hope you have a safe journey home.

Oh what a nightmare Enfys, no wonder you were all deflated, I would have been in tears lol. Thanks for the photos of all the gorgeous stuff, wow you picked up some amazine images!! Hope the journey home comes and goes with any hitches;)

Love all of the new things to look forward to. I thought the dresses made out of the paper were awesome. Oh, your poor ladies. I'd have given up after the first round of shopping. But it is something that you can look back on and laugh about it, like the rest of us are doing now. LOL. Hugs, Debra
ReplyDeleteEnfys you tell a story better than anyone I know. I no it was frustrating and a nightmare but the way you tell it made me laugh. I would have been to angry to even write about it.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to flight stories. BUT, better yet, sleep and have an uneventful trip.
I'm so sorry you ladies have had to go thru all of this. What a mess...and to think of all of the crafting supplies you could have bought w that $$ and come home w none! I hope your pilot's gps works and you're all home safely soon!

Love the new goodies. So sorry to hear of your expensive ride! I guess after all that you were lucky not to find a place where you could spend too much money! Take care, ~Diane
ReplyDeleteWhat a day!!! Hopefully, by now you are home and save and sound!
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the great pictures.
Oh Dear Enfys its sounds as if you had a nightmare of a day, but I hope your goodies made up for it. I love those things you photographed those dresses are fabulous and so colourful. Have a safe journey home. with love and hugs Shirleyxx
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh Enfys! What a tale, next time, just pay a cab to take you where you want to go.They know where everything is, and if you tip them enough, they won't take the long way around! lol
ReplyDeleteSo did you get anything good at all? I would be disappointed, that's for sure! I hope you have had a good flight back, and are rested up now. Hugs, Jessica
What a dreadful time you had. Hope you get home safe and sound without too many diversions, and with loads of new goodies to play with.
ReplyDeleteyou are brave to drive all around like that. I'm not sure I could do it. Quite the adventure though...you should have taken pictures of Hollywood Tow...
ReplyDeleteHope you are safely home.
I am so sorry your last day was so terrible. Born and raised just an hour away from where you were, well, that's why we moved north!
ReplyDeleteThese cards are so beautiful! I love the Martha Stewart butterflies. I'll need to budget, for sure! Hope your flight home was much better than your drive around town!
Many blessings, Donna

I have been to La once some years ago and my husband did the driving. There is no way I would have been on those roads. I thought people in Memphis drove crazy but they are rather tame compared to those people in LA.
ReplyDeleteI love the first card and those paper dresses are unbelievable. What a day you had in LA. I hope you have better luck on your trip home. It is probably better you didn't find Michaels as you spent your money every where else. Be safe on the rest of your journey.
ReplyDeleteoh dear sorry your last day didn't go so well, still looks like your days at CHA were a huge success! hugs Denx
ReplyDeleteOh Enfys! I do love reading all of your escapades. I have to admit that by the end tears were rolling down my face. Of course, I'm sure it wasn't nearly that amusing while it was all going on! You're braver than I...not sure if I'd have tried the LA traffic! Crossed fingers that your pilot's GPS was smarter than the one in your rental! Hope that you are home safe and sound. Thanks for the much needed laugh and the pictures of the gorgeous dresses. I'd be happy to give them a home if they don't know what to do with them now that the shows done!

Thanks for showing these dresses made of paper. I've never been to a craft show and have little hope of ever going, so it's wonderful to be able to see what they are like.
ReplyDeleteEN, I know I should be laughing at your tale but I am glad I'm not the only person who can't programme a GPS signal properly !!! Hope the journey home was a little less stressful,
