with this card.....
Now as on other days this week, I have trawled back way into the dark ages to pull up some very early cards to show you - there isn't a lot of point in re-posting any I showed you a couple of months ago. I couldn't find a photo of my other 'cover' card, but I can't tell you thrill you get when you see a magazine with your creation on the cover. The other one was a jolly little Santa I seem to remember
It all started in May of 2008, I had only started this blog in January 2008, and I had an email from the then editor Jenny Dixon, asking if I would like to do a commission of ten cards, I can't find any photos of that commission but I remember it was all about using lace, so they were very pretty girly cards - I was so excited to be asked! I seem to remember each card took me days....
After that I did commissions most months, in the early days I was often asked to make four cards for the quick cards section of the magazine (thankfully that section has now been changed to cards on specific themes. I say thankfully, because it was incredibly difficult to come up with inspiring ideas that would make the reader say WOW, and yet be able to copy them in thirty minutes or less). Here are a few of the ones I was really proud of, going way back to 2008 and 2009 for most of them
Male Card
Birthday candles
This next one was part of a masterclass article on making pocket cards - the cards were gifts in themselves, each one holding little treats for the recipient...
and I got asked to do some imaginative stuff - these ones were a set entitled 'cheeky undies!'
One of my favourite 'quick cards' makes was this Valentines card - it still makes me giggle!
And I really loved being asked to make a set of Easter cards with a religious theme rather than cute bunnies and Easter eggs...
Here is another card from a mastercard class commission which was all about using Punctuation Marks as the focal point of your cards
another quick card I was rather proud of, the birds were made with buttons...
a quick card Christmas scene - I included this one, although it's a terrible photo, because it seems quite ahead of it's time, I would make this card now in 2014, maybe using some texture paste snowy backgrounds instead of the snowflake brads I used back then.....
from a feature all about shoes and handbags.....
and using punches for cute animal cards....
and this was a masterclass feature making a little coupon book out of empty toilet rolls. Nicky Hall of Polkadoodles provided the readers with printable coupons which slid into the little pockets. The idea was to offer 'coupons' as a gift - I promise to mow the lawn' or 'good for one car wash and wax' or 'baby sitting for a date night' and so on. Cute idea, but I didn't take good photos of the project before sending it off!
So there's my 'blast from the past', and bearing in mind that most of these are five or six years old, I don't think they have dated too much. Do you? Magazine work certainly brings it's own challenges - tight deadlines, working to very specific guidelines, and even the products used have to be current and readily available to readers, but I always work best when under pressure, so it's been fun
Now on to today, Vicki Atkinson, the editor of the magazine has kindly offered a fabulous prize for Going Buggy followers, someone will get:
A prize bundle from Papercraft Inspirations magazine including books, craft supplies and a copy of the latest magazine

ReplyDeleteStarted using bloglovin' yesterday, and boy, did it mess things up :P If I click off to your blog from my feed I can't comment on the post.. Is this something that's only happening with Chrome, or does anyone else have the same problem, or could it just be an issue with the user? (which I don't doubt for a second!)
Anyway, thanks for sharing and inspiring me!
Hugs /Sofia

ReplyDeleteEnfys,
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this package. I get the magazines every other month at Joann's. I love them but the only problems is they are usually 1-2 months old. I still purchase them. For a subscription it runs about $135.00 a year which is not in the current budget so I just go get a copy every now and then. I so love this magazine. Good luck to all and the little piggy card is so so so cute...
Some fab samples shown here Enfys :) I've signed-up for the mailing list, looking forward to much more inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWow! That's my fave UK mag. I haven't been able to get many because I can't always find them. I would be honored to have your cover issue!

I didn't know there was a blog - thanks! I'm leaving a comment there and signing up, too. And thanks for the fabulous giveaway!

ReplyDeleteEnfys, I didn't know you did the 6 pack card! It still pops into my head, ha ha. I've been meaning to do it for a friends husband and was thinking, probably this year! I've even had the pop-tops saved up ;- ) Thanks always for your great inspiration and laughs. Yes, your cards do hold up. They are classic. Was that a bit much? ;- )
ReplyDeleteI am really enjoying looking at all your "older" cards and getting some ideas. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI'm a great fan of PI!!!! Thanks for the chance of winning! !!! Karen x
ReplyDeleteWow! I remember all but one of your cards! And that's just from the magazines, I only started following your blog a couple of years ago.

Fab old card! Fab giveaway too!
ReplyDeletehugs, Helena
Wonderful cards! You are so talented!
ReplyDeleteI got a chuckle out of the odd card you had done way back when. I remember using the odd item to make a card theme similar to yours. Love the piggies card.
ReplyDeleteLinda R. Thanks for showing the old cards, thanks for a great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteFun cards from 'yesteryear'. Wonderful giveaway prize.
ReplyDeleteI always love your sense of humor, and when it comes out in your cards it is pure FUN! I remembered some of these :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the generous Giveaway!
Fun selection of cards, Enfys, and the button bird card is really cute. Also agree about your old but contemporary Christmas card. Thanks for another fab giveaway. I love browsing paper crafting magazines, but they are not readily available here. I sometimes see a magazine at a Greek newsstand but they are really expensive.
ReplyDeleteSo interesting to look back, my fave is probably the birds what a novel idea, also love the Easter card.
ReplyDeleteA blast from the past that seems like yesterday. You are so right about the cards not dating at all. I really appreciate all of your ideas and going back in time is so fun.
ReplyDeleteI subscribe to papercraft inspirations and eagerly await each issue. Some much interesting reading.
ReplyDeleteWhat a load of fab projects. Love those birds made from buttons. Cute, clean and always looking for button ideas. The coupon book is making me regret throwing all those toilet roll inners away!!! I had kept them for so long but you can't keep everything!! Now you show me a great idea. Ah well, I expect there will be more along soon. Hugz
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful Enfys are your creations and a fabulous give away too! x
ReplyDeleteAll of the cards are fantastic! Awesome work!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great collection of cards - and timeless too, the "older" ones would still merit a place in the magazine now, even though crafting fashions change so fast!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh! I have that coupon booklet from Polka Doodles!! I didn't remember it being made with toilet paper rolls! I guess I need to start hanging on to those! Thanks for another stroll through your fabby projects! Love the birds though I am sure it took ages!
ReplyDeleteThe tp books! Oh my gosh, I remember seeing your darling book and then I saved dozens of tp rolls only to find that almost none of them were the same! Oh the fun of it all. Kate
ReplyDeleteLovely cards - thank you for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteJust signed up for their newsletter and look forward to receiving my first one. You sure have had some lovely things in that mag. Thanks for sharing these memories with us and for the chances to win these lovely prizes.
