There's a brand new Polkadoodles CD just come out, it's got images and papers representing the four seasons, and is simply fabulous.
This card is one of the samples I sent to Nikky, the owner and designer of Polkadoodles CD's, and was taken from the Spring collection
every single element on the card is taken from the CD apart from the raffia the giant buttons were printed onto cardstock, punched out, and threaded with raffia
I am probably going to destroy any credibility I may have as an intelligent, computer savvy person by telling you the hassle I had when I came back here to the USA on monday, but hey, who cares about reputations?
We have a broadband connection here, which we are able to 'switch off' when we are back in the UK, which saves a few dollars. I had carted my laptop over from the UK, plugged everything in.............nothing, no internet connection. I called our service provider, they talked me through all sorts of complicated stuff. Still nothing. So they arranged for a service call the next day.
Later that day, as I pondered about the complexity of life in this day and age, a thought struck me - shouldn't there be a little lead from the box to the computer? Of course there should, and there it was, hiding on the floor. I plugged it in, instant access, and just in time to cancel the service call.
So next I switched on the TV, no picture, just a big blue screen with the words 'this cable box is not functional. Call
for assistance'. I always do as I am told, so I called for assistance, and got a very nice woman, who, once we had got past the pleasantries (I LOVE your accent, it's so cute.....) did all sorts of stuff at her end. 'Do you have a picture now?' 'No'........ more fiddling around, still no picture. This went on, and on, and on. She was perplexed, she was bemused, then she had a sudden thought. 'Is there a green light on the box?' 'No'
She was very nice, and tried really hard to sound truthful when she promised that she wouldn't tell everyone about the idiot woman from the UK who called for technical support without switching on the box. Of course she will, I would be the first one to publish it for all the world to see

great card! you're not the dumb one...actually she was, as stupid as it sounds...that should have been her first question to you, in a non patronizing way. She had all the power and she forgot her script! Hope that makes you feel better...but still a great story!

Gorgeous card Enfys.
ReplyDeleteAnd a little story just to make you feel better.... years ago at work my PC wouldn't work no matter what I tried; I rang the help desk and quickly got IT support service ( my office was next to the coffee room - so I always got a quick response!!)After his coffee was finished....he declared tbat he couldn't sort it - and rang for back up - 2 more quickly came to his rescue - but still no joy... SO the manager was called out.... but still no joy.
I decided to do some filing - and as I put some stuff away - I notice the lead - with plug attached - loose on the floor - so I quietly plugged it in and switched it on!!
Et voila.... 4 happy IT support men and me with red faces - and in need of another coffee!!!! And an update to their technical support procedures..... They just never lived it down....
Ans it was all the cleaners "fault"... she had used that plug for a change for the hoover......
So you are not alone......
Just love your card. I had a problem at my Mom's house once that you would enjoy. My mom went into a nursing home due to her medical condition out here in Michigan. Our family went back to NJ during the summer to go through the house cleaning and sorting. We had to wash clothes for the boys, so I went downstairs popped the clothes into the machine, nothing happened. I called my husband the engineer, and he couldn't figure it out either. We called the plumber ...at $50.00 per hour, only to find out later that my Mom's neighbor shut off the water at the main...to help out in the case of a leak! Expensive problem solver.
ReplyDeleteYour card is so pretty, I love the colors.
ReplyDeleteOh Enfys don't you just love all those little things that take up hole days? They do make good stories. When are you going for coffee?
Oh dear, yesterday you were saying about the funny things the Americans say and do, now they can have there revenge by saying that youve been daft to. Love the card its fabulous and all that detail is gorgeous. With love and hugs Shirleyxxx
ReplyDeleteOh Enfys........ thats just the sort of thing I'd do lol
ReplyDeleteGorgeous card aswell xx
A very sweet little card! As always. All I have to say about your lack of techno-savy is... I am soooo glad there are others out there as inept as I am, thank you very much! lol The best thing about it all, is that you will never again forget to plug something in, or turn it on before making the calls!
ReplyDeleteEnfys I do so enjoy your creations and love your stories. Your blog is the first thing I log into in the mornings and you definitely start my mornings off with a chuckle with your stories. I think the more I know about computers the less I know. LOL
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend
Maureen
Darn cute card. I really like the birds and buttons. I think we've all been through calling the cable company to walk us through the steps. I hate doing it!
ReplyDeleteMary Ann
Gorgeous card Enfys, I can't believe the buttons aren't real, they fooled me! Loved your story, reminds us all how important it is to laugh at ourselves sometimes. Thanks for sharing. ~Diane
ReplyDeleteGreat Card Enfys....I just moved in with my mom and for her birthday I bought her a new netbook. So she is learning now to use the internet, email, facebook ect...She is always calling me over to show her again how I did this or got to here....well the other day she was talking to her brother in MO and was going to send him something thatI had scanned for her...he put his granddauther on the phone b/c she lives with him and is the only one in that house that knows how to use a computer....as my mom was writing out the email addy I just happend to be looking over her shoulder...the email addy had an underscore _ in it...well my mom wrote out underscore! Hahaha
ReplyDeleteOh what lovely images that CD has. I'm going to be a good girl and not even think of looking at their site and what CDs they have available. I already went off my spending diet today at Ollies as they had some Martha Stewart and Inkadinkadoo stamp sets there for $1.29 a set! Great deal!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you aren't the first one who has called for tech help for that very same problem. That should be their first question. Is it plugged in and turned on?
Adorable card, you have really made my day I thought it was only me that did things like that and lets face it I am a few years younger than you!! What hope is there for me lol.
ReplyDeleteKim xXx

I am just so so so glad to know that someone else is as lost with computer technology as I am. But I would never even attempt to have a blog....so you just keep on keepin on!!! You're way ahead of the likes of me!
ReplyDeleteEnfys, thanks so much for today's laugh! We ALL do things like that from time to time! You always manage to write it up so that it makes you want to laugh rather than pulling your hair out!

Your card is just adorable. I love how the bird houses are above the top of the card. Hey, we all have those times when we're not so "functional" as technical experts. Thanks for the laugh.
