I picked up a couple of copies of this brand new magazine, devoted to all things Cricut, at CHA. This is the first issue, and the two copies are up for grabs here. If you want one, just leave your name under this post.
I guess you will want to know what I thought of it? Well there were some cute projects in there, but also some projects that had me scratching my head a little (no, a lot if I am totally honest) I was
surprised, for instance that scallop borders were credited to Martha Stewart punches when there is an identical cut on the Plantin Schoolbook cartridge. Can you believe they credit Stampin Up for a plain circle punch, when we have good old George to do the job? So I didn't feel that our super machines were used to capacity or showed their versatility in this edition. I would have thought that it was an ideal opportunity to show that the machine makes lots of extra purchases like circle punches redundant.
With some of the scrapbook layouts the instructions were so sparse - literally a list of products used - that you really had to guess which bit had been cut with the Cricut. There was a good mix of cards, scrapbook layouts, a few cake projects and some home decor stuff, so something for everyone. They have also used a wide variety of cartridges, including some of the older ones, which I thought was good. The instructions for the cards were quite detailed although they failed to give you the crucial size of the cut. They also utilised design studio, the gypsy and the imagine machine on a few projects, although this just meant they mentioned DS or gypsy (weld the two shapes together using DS) The projects are beautifully photographed.
Will I subscribe? I am a bit on the fence at the moment, probably not, but would buy it if I saw it in a store. At $15 a copy, I think they need to sharpen the Cricut content and show me cuts and ways of using the cuts that I hadn't dreamed of.
In the meantime, here's your chance to judge for yourself. I will give the names of two winners on Monday when I announce the winner of the fluffy green Cricut, who looks to me as if he is giving me very baleful looks and can't wait to get out of here - scroll down for that post if you haven't already offered to adopt him

I would love to win a copy of this pub because I have had my cricut for a year and have just recently used it for the first time. I love it, but am intimidated by it. So, I would love to have a mag to give me some extra inspiration and motivation to get goin' with my Cricut! Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway. I'd like to see it but I doubt I'll subscribe due to the cost.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be GREAT to win a magazine! WOW @ $15, I agree it should have more Cricut details!

Thank you for your insights on this. I have been getting tons of information about subscribing but have been hesitant due to the hefty price tag and the fact that I really enjoy seeing the blog posts because I honestly think their better than most magazines out there! I would love to check it out though if you're willing to share.
ReplyDeleteI'm so new to the Cricut that i'd love to get/read anything and learn everything about it. Thanks for the chance.

Mmmmmmmm -yes please! I'm in need of encouragement and inspiration at the moment. It deserted me when my dad died because I sat up all night waiting for THE call from my sister knowing it would come at around 4am. To keep my mind off things, I made card after card after card until the phone rang..... and since then, although I miss all things paper, I am blocked :(
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to get my hands on this magazine to see what it's ALL about. Thanks for your honest opinion. Hugs, T
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opinion on the magazine. I am not sure if I want to spend the money at this point to get it until I see a little of it for myself, so winning one would be perfect. Thanks for the chance!

ReplyDeleteThank you very much for the honest review and for the opportunity to win a copy.
ReplyDeleteEnfys,
ReplyDeleteI have been on the fence about this also. I have the Cards publication which was not cheap. I use to get the Scrapbook one. That price is just a bit steep. Thanks for giving them away. Maybe I will win one and check it out first. Take the circut for coffee and doughnuts at Starbucks and you will never get rid of him. Good Luck to everyone.
Thank you Enfys for your honest opinion. I would love to win a copy of this magazine so I could see for myself the beautiful projects. Thanks for the offering.

ReplyDeleteThe cost of the magazine is way too steep for my budget. I would love to sneak a peak at it for inspiration. But I agree with you, wish it was geared toward offering ideas to use the cartridges for cuts we haven't even imagined. Thanks for the opportunity to win such an awesome prize!

ReplyDeletersg721@hotmail.com
I have always valued your opinion and your take on the magazine brings me to the conclusion that it isn't worth the $15. However, if I won one, I would love it so I can see for myself if it is worth the money. I was hoping it was all about the Cricut and not punches and stamps. (though the use of these items in conjunction with the Cricut is nice). Thanks for sharing your comments and a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comments! I have been on the fence about the magazine. My first response was, Oh Boy a Cricut magazine..I just have to have it, but we were short in the finances at the time so I'm glad now that I wasn't able to get it. I'll wait to see if they improve on it.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity to win one!!

Thanks, I would love the chance to have one of the cricut magazines to read. It looks very interesting.
ReplyDeleteThanks for previewing this magazine. I also wondered how they would incorporate the Cricut into the magazines. It would have saved people a lot of time and paper if they would have shown what sizes to cut. I still have trouble guessing on that sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a copy to check it out but, as others have said, the cost will put me off subscribing to it
Thanks for the opportunity to win one.
I'm curious to have a look at this magazine, but it does seem a bit pricey. If I keep seeing more good things about it I may give it a try anyway.
ReplyDeleteThanks for being so honest about the magazine. I would love to see what is in it and then I can judge whether or not to subscribe to it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance.

So glad you gave an honest assessment of this new mag. I took a look at it in my local Joann's and wasn't all that impressed, especially with the price of it. So if you happen to pick my name, don't spend the money on the postage for me, pick another number. I just don't think I would get a ton of use out of it and it would be better to go to someone who would.
ReplyDeletethank!
Hi Enfys,
ReplyDeleteyou really are a thoughtful enabler aren't you.
I think I should win a copy, (actually, PC should send me a free subscription! LOL) as I believe I was the first to suggest that PC produce a real hardcopy Cricut magagazine. xxxx
Thanks for your honesty! I would love to see one for myself. But I don't think I'll subscribe because it's too expensive. I don't subscribe to the other mags they put out, for the same reason. If I win one, I'll be happy to share it with some one else. I have a friend in KY who could then send it on to her friend. Wouldn't that be a fun way to share the mag! Thanks Enfys, I can always count on you for doing things honestly.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Jess
I can't tell you enough how much I appreciate getting an honest opinion about something such as this magazine. It seems as if everyone is always pro PC without really checking it out first. So much of their stuff is getting to be so expensive and I need to use my $$$ wisely. Thanks again.
