Heidi Swapp Stencils...

When I was in Florida, I picked up some Heidi Swapp stencils in Michaels, together with a suitcase full of other stuff, most of which I still haven't used. I found the stencil the other day - it's a three part stencil, a background, the bird and branch and a mask.

So for this card, I put the bird branch mask onto a panel of white cardstock, popped the background stencil over that and used distress inks for the background. When I took that away, there was a crisp white branch, so I positioned the branch stencil carefully over that and dabbed it with black ink - being quite light with the dauber, I wanted a faded look - I rather like it. The chalkboard thank you was in a pack I picked up in the dollar bin. I dotted a few clear sequins around for a bit of sparkle, but the camera hasn't picked those up

Now take a look at my other accomplishment for today. Ta da.........

With the help of you tube videos, a bit of arm wrestling and some brute force, the monster cube has been tamed. I took the photo of the card above 'in the box' (notice I'm getting a bit arty with some background flowers....). I don't have a big enough space to put the monster on a table so I had to lie full length on the floor to take today's photo, quite ridiculous for a woman of my age, and probably risking never being able to get up again....  I do like the seamless look of the background, but I really can't go through that wrestling match with a bit of nylon and some stiff wires every day, so I must have a new work regime - make the cards and have a weekly photography session. Only time will tell if this is a sensible decision

See you tomorrow x

  1. Cute card Enfys, I'm rather 'into' stencils myself currently ;)

Don't quite understand what this Monster Cube thing is though?

  3. Love the card, I think the stencil set was a good buy. You used it beautifully.
I like how the picture turned out, I have such a tough time photographing, I like to use natural light, but often that just isn't possible, this might be my solution for my backdrop etc.

  6. Love the card Enfys and get you with the 'arty' bit.

Weekly photo sessions laying on the floor? Ooo, sounds like more of a risk as you could put your back out hopping up and down to change the display.

  7. The things we come up with to get decent pictures of our creations...
I'm really warming up to stencils (meaning I always want to buy more) and I love how you did the bird silhouette on this one. Very pretty!

  8. Hi Enfys, love the card. You crack me up. Can't you put the beast on your bed when you take pics! No need to roll around on the floor! ;)

  9. Your card is terrific and I love the use of the mask. I'm wondering if I can make my own mask/stencil on my Cricut, and use with the background stencil. I just picked up a couple of stencils to try, so I'm really at the beginning stage. Looks like fun, though. BethAnn M.

  12. Lol, again. I couldn't have gotten up off the floor. So the light box works. Imagine that. Maybe in the dining room? Well, you'll figure it out. Love the card. That mask is quite pretty. TFS, big hugs Jess

  14. You did great with the stencil! I don't do to well. They never turn out quite like they look in my mind then I'm disappointed with the results. I think I'll just enjoy watching your great results !

  15. I LOVE your stenciled card! The yellow of the artsy rose brings out the yellow in that light green ink towards the bottom of your stencil so perfectly!
How about hanging the Monster from a pully in your craft room, then lowering it to eye level for the photo session, then back up to the ceiling when not in use?

  19. Love the card. It doesn't look single layer. Very dimensional effect. Glad you got monster cube back in it's bag. Looking forward to the next installment....

  20. Congrats Enfys ... on three counts.

First ... on this beautiful card, it turned out fabulous.

Second ... on your incredible photography skills (btw, the accent roses in the background is perfect and gives the whole photo a great look).

Third ... and maybe most important of all, on taming the beast. So glad you were able to get it back in it's little pouch again.

Just curious, is it possible to put the light box (aka, Monster Cube) on your kitchen counter or dinning room table long enough to get your photos? Perhaps you could sit on a chair to take the take the pics that way?
