Stencils and ink - lots of ink.....

It must be past time for me to practice some of the techniques shown in the online stencil class I took - the trouble is, none of them turned out anything like the instructors gorgeous samples. As I have a kamikaze compulsion to share everything with you, here they are - warts and all....

I had bought some stencil brushes at the NEC in November, but never used them before, I must say, I really like them, they give a much softer effect than the blending tool I have been using up to now....

My first disaster venture into the world of stencils was supposed to use one stencil and layer it. I didn't have a suitable stencil, but dug out this Union Jack one that I bought in a fit of patriotic fervour at the time of the Olympics, and never used....

It was supposed to be a controlled layering, but I soon lost the plot and it ended up as a random frenzy of colour - I quite like it funnily enough, I think a teenager would like this card......

The next one is using glimmer mists through a stencil. This worked quite well, but I was instructed to spray inside a box to catch the mist. Well, I couldn't find a box, so in my usual gung-ho fashion I sprayed away regardless, and now my desk and the wall behind are glimmering.....

I couldn't catch the pretty sheen....this one shows it a bit

Happy mail today from the Ribbon Girl, doesn't it look pretty? the white fabric is cheesecloth, I have plans for that, I am doing a guest designer spot for them in March, so you will have to wait a while....

That's it for today, I'm still getting inky so I'll see you tomorrow with some more stencilled cards, but before I go, for those of you in the UK, this might be of interest to you, it could be fun and an easy way to build up your collection of markers if you live close to London

  1. I like your stencil work, Enfys. I've yet to venture into the world of stencils, but maybe I can catch a little of your bravado and give it a try.

  2. I love your stencil designs - both cards look super. I have tried the brushes at a card making class and was very happy with the way they work - unfortunately, the ones we used were not very good quality and the bristles kept coming out over the work which put me off getting any for myself. Might have to have another look.

Wow, what a lovely bundle of goodies - can't wait to see what you come up with.

  3. I struggle with stencils - very often the colour creeps underneath. Obviously this is the fault of the ink and not the person applying it. Love the glimmer mist card Enfys and I'm sure your desk and wall look extremely pretty! Pat x

  4. I think you've done great with the cards :)
And resourcefulness is the creator of happy accidents that then become great techniques!
I still have my sample cards to do for the same class, and my first attempts at Day 1 & 2 looked far worse than yours!

  6. I like both your cards!!
And I've enjoyed reading your blogpost tremendously!!! I'm still smiling. :-)
    Love your sense of humour.
And isn't that all about being creative? To explore and enjoy the journey, not knowing how things will end up? And your cards 'ended up' very beautifully!
    Bye,

  9. Love the card done using mister through a stencil. Do you think one day when you find the time you could do a video on this technique so we could try this on ours cards? Love each one you did.

  14. I would never have bought that union jack stencil because I wouldn't have had enough ideas for it but I absolutely love your background. Very groovy. Thanks for sharing. Always nice to find new ways with the stencils. That sparkly mist does go a surprisingly long way doesn't it!!!
