In an English Country Garden...........

I haven't been at my craft desk for a couple of days, but I know that some of you love seeing photos of what I have been getting up to, and the English countryside, so I took lots for you. We have been away, visiting good friends in a Yorkshire village where we lived when we were first married. Always a treat, even more so at this time of year, Graham is a fantastic gardener, just look how beautiful it is. The weather was hot and sunny, and we spent all our time out there, watching the bees and butterflies, it was so peaceful............

We went on a train journey on the North Yorkshire Moors railway. They are old steam trains that have been beautifully restored by volunteers, running through some of the most glorious countryside. If you are ever that way, don't miss it. They put us in a first class carriage, so the four of us sat in a rather splendid carriage in armchairs, sipping coffee from paper cups which rather destroyed the illusion of grandeur!

we chugged past lovely little country stations...........

one of the beautifully restored steam trains..............

lovely stacks of old suitcases in the waiting room........
for the signalman to flag down the trains.........

in case of fire.........

Sir Nigel took us back to Pickering. A more recent steam train, but very famous............

We ended up having lunch in Pickering, and a browse around the town, where we discovered this cake shop, a visual feast!

The whole trip was a nostalgia fest, I loved it. Hope you have enjoyed the photos, I'll be back with crafty things tomorrow

  2. How lovely that you actually has sunshine for your visit and your train journey. Love the steam trains and did one the first time we went to visit our friends near Lichfield. Heading back this September with a trip to Rome in the middle so hopefully the weather will co-operate. Thanks for sharing the lovely photos.

  3. thank you Enfy for sharing this. I live 1000 miles apart (.. and cannot afford the overseas holiday..sad..) and enjoy looking at those beautiful scenic photos of your country. My 3 1/2 old son (in kindy now) will be delighted to see the steam train as he is a Thomas & Friends fanatic. Going to show him the photos tonight.

  5. What a lovely trip. I loved all the green in the pictures. Our area of the country is so brown from the heat, no rain and fires.

  8. Simply beautiful, NYMR and Pickering is a regular haunt of ours - hubby likes the trains and I like the countryside - we live about an hour away so usually end up there a few times a year. xxx Carol V

  9. Absolutely Spectacular! Just one of the reasons I want to come to the UK. All the beautiful scenery, the archetecure, old churches and the wonderful people too. I love seeing what went on in the world before the US even existed. Thanks so much for sharing these lovely pix.

  12. A part of the world I know very well, En. Your photos are gorgeous and that garden, well it's stunning. How I would love to potter in that!!!
You were lucky with the sunshine too, it's been sadly lacking this week here in Yorkshire when the rest of the country seem to be basking in Summer.
So glad you enjoyed your visit.

  14. Homesick! I'm a brummie bird and get back when I can. There is nothing better than sitting in the garden on a sunny afternoon....and it is a beautiful garden!! Though not much chance of that for me here in sunny Arizona!

  16. Wow Enfys, what a beautiful garden, tell you friend Graham that he is a fabulous gardener. I so love the variety. I sat on my deck last evening and looked at pretty gardening magazine and Graham's garden could be in them easily. I would love to visit this same place one day.
    Hugs.

  19. What a beautiful trip you had! I love a beautiful English garden, nothing like it! There are some here in the US that think they have an English garden, but they don't really have a clue. BUT we have a neighbor that has the most splendid garden ever. There was a 'garden walk' in our community last weekend and she was part of it. I spent a few lovely hours at her home feeling like I was in England again. So beautiful!
